From September 24 to October 23, 2024, 39 employees of the National Police of Ukraine and 38 rescuers of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine will undergo training at the Sign Language School of the NGO "Gesture of Help".

About 3 million people with disabilities are officially registered in Ukraine, and 300,000 of them acquired this status after the start of the full-scale invasion. A significant part of these people have hearing impairment.

This initiative is aimed at improving the professional training of NPU and DSNS workers, in particular in matters of effective communication with people with disabilities, especially with hearing impairment, during the provision of assistance and services.

Against the background of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the issues of accessibility and support for people with disabilities are becoming even more urgent. Many people lost their health or suffered injuries that fundamentally changed their lives. Our goal is to provide them with the opportunity to live in dignity and receive the necessary assistance.

Accessibility is not only about physical accessibility, but also about creating conditions in which every person, regardless of their circumstances, will feel safe and have confidence that their needs are taken into account. In the conditions of war, this question becomes especially important.
