As part of a study visit to Poland, Yaroslav Kotylko studied Poland's experience in working with people with special needs. Such a Polish organization is OSTOJA, which was founded in 1993 on the initiative of parents and guardians of children with nervous system disorders. It brings together parents (guardians) of children and youth with disabilities, as well as specialized staff working with them in Wroclaw and Lower Silesia.
The main purpose of the Association's activities is to create equal life rights and opportunities in society for families raising children and young people with disabilities, especially in the field of rehabilitation, therapy, education and upbringing.
The Association employs:
- Rehabilitation and Training Center in Wrocław, 37a Górnickiego St.
as part of classes for the re-profiling of day care and education of children with severe mental retardation (for 70 children), early intervention and developmental support for children under 10 years of age and psychological and pedagogical assistance for their families (for about 150 children).
- Therapeutic and Rehabilitation Center in Wroclaw, 10 Litomska Street, which provides rehabilitation and therapeutic activities for young people with disabilities - approximately 130 people participate in them
- the Revalidation Center in Środa Śląska, Malczycka 4, where more than 50 children regularly use physical rehabilitation, pedagogical and speech therapy
- workshops on occupational therapy for people with intellectual and mobility disabilities with a program that is being prepared to participate in employment promotion
- in Wrocław at 10 Litomska Street (for a group of 95 people)
- in Środzieśl (for a group of 25 people)
- Public self-help center in Wrocław at Stawowa 1a (for a group of 30 people)
The Association also operates
- permanent information and counseling centers for families and those interested in working for children and young people with disabilities
- training in methods of rehabilitation of children and youth with disabilities
- annual rehabilitation and training for children and their caregivers, as well as integration camps for young people with the participation of peer volunteers
- occasional events for children and their peers
- events that promote artistic activities of children and young people with disabilities
- ongoing cooperation with universities
- ongoing cooperation with volunteers
- actively participates in the development of local government programs aimed at improving the quality of life of families raising children and youth with disabilities.
