Sixteen-year-old twins Bohdana and Daryna from the large Struk family in Liubeshiv district make custom-made candy bouquets to save money for surgery in Germany.

Since birth, the sisters have had a very severe and rare disease - osteogenesis imperfecta, which is popularly called "crystal". They have brittle bones, small legs and a high probability that every bruise will cost them months of rehabilitation, or even their lives. They can move only with crutches, but this leads to even greater deformation of the limbs. The clinic in Germany gave them a chance to walk on their own, but the total cost of the surgeries, which should be 4 for each of them, is about 160 thousand euros.

For the Struk family, this amount is simply unaffordable, and until they raise all of it, they will not be taken on, because if they do the first surgery and do not have the funds for the rest, the children are at risk of being left lying down. According to the latest data, the girls have about 76 thousand euros on their account, but this is not even half the amount needed.

The sisters decided to help their parents with the fundraising and began to put money into a piggy bank for themselves: "For the dream of walking without crutches", making original bouquets as gifts.

"The idea to make these bouquets came up a long time ago. We always liked watching video tutorials on YouTube, where the whole process was described in detail, and we tried it ourselves," Daryna begins. She says that she started practicing origami in the 6th grade, and when she had enough experience, she started adding candy to her compositions.

The young craftswomen put love and hope into each of their compositions, because although it is a small business, it is still a chance for them to be at least one step closer to their dream of walking normally.

So far, they haven't sold many bouquets, they say their social media page is not well-promoted, so they are practicing on gifts for family and friends. Eventually, they want to find their customers online as well.

When asked how they are doing, they are very optimistic: "We're not going to give up, we're in a good mood, we're a little worried because the flow of funds has stopped. We know that there are still many sick children who need help, but the further we go, the more difficult it is, the more serious our condition, health and well-being... We cannot raise such a large amount of money for the operation on our own, so we ask you, if you have the opportunity, to help us realize our dream, please," the twins Daryna and Bogdan appeal to all those who care and beg for help, because time is running out.
