On the initiative of the NAPIU Secretariat and within the framework of the project "Promoting the rights of persons with disabilities through the development of inclusive laws and policies" with the support of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), an information meeting "Interaction of state and public organizations of persons with disabilities in times of war" was held on May 25, 2022 on the Zoom platform.

The Secretary General of the NAPD, Viktoriia Nazarenko, emphasized the importance of interaction and participation of organizations of people with disabilities in decision-making processes, especially in such a difficult time. Our dear Leaders of public organizations of people with disabilities from different parts of Ukraine shared their organizations' experience in the difficult conditions of the war in Ukraine, organizing humanitarian responses, supporting people affected by the war, helping children with disabilities, the elderly and solving other problematic issues, including social security for people with disabilities, that is, they talked about the sore spots. We would like to note again that even in such difficult times, we do not forget about peace and work to restore it, and that is why, with the assistance of the NAIU, the first special wheelchair gynecological chair for women with disabilities was installed in Ukraine.

Yaroslav Kotylko, Head of the NGO "Gesture Of Support", shared his experience of cooperation with state and local authorities in the field of assistance to people with disabilities.

Taking into account everything said at the information meeting, the NAPD Secretariat raised a very important and topical issue, namely the definition of the special status of public organizations of people with disabilities at the legislative level in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, emphasizing that such status is not considered discriminatory in relation to other public organizations, as stated in the comments of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The event was held in an effective and positive atmosphere. It was aimed at restoring peace in Ukraine. In the end, the Secretary General of the National Assembly thanked all the participants for their active life position, for their endurance and for their huge contribution to our common cause, and the cause of everyone in their city for the benefit of Ukraine.

Let's build a happy and peaceful country! Glory to Ukraine!
